Intro: Why I am choosing to blog, right here, right now

Hello, old friends and new readers. As some of you know, I abandoned Facebook over a year ago, recognizing that they as a big corporation have become an evil empire primarily focused on pleasing their advertisers while ignoring the safety and well-being of their users. I used to be an avid fb user, installing the apps on my phone, sharing the details of my life frequently through written status updates and photos, sharing links to videos and articles that made me laugh or think, checking my feed multiple times per day, and using it to stay in touch with friends.

I do not miss Facebook. However, when I quit my fb habit cold turkey, I had already started to lose touch with my community.

I had moved to a beautiful home far from town. It was not as easy to be socially active, to go dancing or meet up with friends without lots of pre-planning. The days my partner and I went into town were filled with appointments, errands, and grocery shopping, with little time for fun, and no stamina to spare. Disconnecting my virtual presence added to my isolation. After moving to a place far from cell phone towers, I relied on fb’s messaging system for quick communications with friends, and removing fb limited me to old school email. We did eventually, thankfully, find a solution to that issue earlier this year, by switching to T-mobile. They have a Wi-Fi Calling feature built into their phones, and we can now make & receive calls and texts at our home on the farm with only a few occasional glitches. But it was too little too late. By the time I could text message friends again, I had lost the habit and motivation to keep in touch.

So now, I am making some much needed changes in my life. More on that in the next post. I want to reconnect. I want to write about my life and post pics and embed YouTube video of songs that are meaningful to me in the moment and express myself creatively the way I used to… but on my terms, without giving up my rights to some evil corporation. I want to make myself available, both online and in person. Finally starting this blog is one of the first steps toward creating a whole new lifestyle for myself.

So Welcome, dear readers, and enjoy.

    Sent you an email.

Also, your header image makes it VERY hard to read the text. Like, nearly impossible. Just FYI.
